Alang Madan Kulang

Alang Madan Kulang are forts in Nashik district, Maharashtra, India. It lies in the Kalsubai range of the mighty Western Ghats. AMK is regarded as the most difficult trek in Maharashtra as it includes multiple climbing and rappelling patches. Thrilling traverse and dense forest cover makes this trek difficult. These three forts are a little neglected due to very heavy rains in the area and a difficult confusing path to the forts.

Ways To Reach

To reach Alang, go to Kasara or Igatpuri and then Ambevadi by the Igatpuri/Kasara-Ghoti-Pimpalgaormor route. There is a bus service from Ghoti to Ambevadi.. Ambevadi is 32 km away from Ghoti. A bus is available at 7.30 a.m. from Ghoti to Ambevadi. We can easily see Alang, Madan and Kulang from there. From Ambevadi, a way goes to the ridge between Alang and Madan, which may take up to 3 hours. From the ridge, the fort visible on the left is Alang, while the one on the right is Madan.

Igatpuri dhamagiri is a town and a Hill Station municipal council in Nashik District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located in the Western Ghats. Igatpuri railway station lies in Nashik District between Mumbai and Nashik Road on the Central Railway. Igatpuri is known for Vipassana International Academy, where ancient technique of meditation is taught called Vipassana. The place is one of the best places to visit in Maharashtra in monsoon. It is a hill station on busy Mumbai-Agra NH-3 only 45 km from Nashik and 130 km from Mumbai.

Igatpuri railway station is a major railway station connecting Igatpuri to Mumbai The station is famous for its scenic surroundings, wada pao and idlis sold by vendors to commuters traveling in the train. The exit of Igatpuri railway station signals the proximity of Mumbai on down route.

Tringalwadi fort is located in the Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district. It is located on the ancient trade route passing through Thal ghat. The fort is located near village Tringalwadi. The Tringalwadi irrigation dam which is close to the village was built in 1978

The village Tringalwadi is located 7 km from Igatpuri. Igatpuri is located on Mumbai-nashik Railway route as well as National Highway NH 160. There are two routes to reach the village Tringalwadi from Igatpuri first one passes through Igatpuri town and the other is by taking a northern exit to NH160 at Ghoti, further passing through village Balayaduri. The Tringalwadi fort is located on a hill which runs north-south. It is a mesa rock formation. The climb is very easy and takes about 30 minutes to reach the top of the fort from the village.

Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple in the town of Trimbak, in the Trimbakeshwar tehsil in the Nashik District of Maharashtra, India, 28 km from the city of Nashik and 40 km from nashik road. It is dedicated to the god Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, where the Hindu genealogy registers at Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra are kept. The origin of the sacred Godavari river is near Trimbak.
Kusavarta, a kunda (sacred pond) in the temple premises is the source of the Godavari River, the longest river in peninsular India. The current temple was built by Peshwa Balaji Baji Rao (Nanasaheb).

Places to see

At the footshills of the fort is a cave called Pandav leni with beautifully carved entrance and a stone idol of Rishabhanatha in the garbha gruha. The cave has a large sabha mandapa. the western entrance to the fort is a unique structure of architecture. The steps and the entrance gate is carved from a single rock. There is an idol of veerHanuman or maruti near the entrance gate and two sharabhaidols carved on the top of the entrance gate. On the fort are ruins of old buildings and a smallBhavanimata temple.

Nasik is a holy city located on the banks of River Godavari that merges in the Bay of Bengal after flowing through Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. The mythologically historical spot called Panchavati is found here. This was the abode of Lord Rama, Seetha and Lakshman during their forest exile time. It was here Surpanakha, the younger sister of Ravana got her nose severed by Lakshman, which made this place as Nashik. Nashik means Nose. Once in 12 years Kumbha Mela takes place here. In the present commercial days Nasik has gained international fame by its WINE.
When you are at Nasik you must go to Igatpuri, where you will see a wonderful Dhammagiri, an important tourist dot in terms of Vipassana meditation. Infact I have gone to this International Centre for Vipassana meditation and did observe silent prayer for some time. Igatpuri is surrounded by Western Ghats known as Sahyaadri. There are forts built by rulers of Satavahana dynasty. It is heaven for Trekkers and hikers to mount these hillocks.

There are public and private buses available to take you to Nasik apart from the railway station and airport. Kalsubai (Marathi: कळसूबाई शिखर) is a mountain in the Western Ghats, located in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Its summit situated at an elevation of 1646 metres (5400 feet) is the highest point in Maharashtra.
The mountain range lies within the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary. It is visited throughout the year by avid trekkers, Kalsubai temple devotees and wildlife enthusiasts alike
The truncated summit provides a modest area of flat land which holds a sacred temple of a local deity.

Traditional Prayer Service

A traditional prayer service is held every Tuesday and Thursday by a priest. During the festival of Navratri a fair comes to be organized each year with many stalls being set up near the summit to provide pooja materials to the devotees. On these special occasions local villagers participate in this fair which helps to supplement their livelihood and as well as provides them an opportunity to revere the mountain.
The mountain range was formed by the same historical events that gave birth to the Western Ghats. Resting on the Deccan Plateau geologically identified as a large igneous province, it consists of solidified Flood basalt dating back to the Cenozoic era.

Kalaram Temple

The Kalaram Temple is an old Hindu shrine dedicated to Rama in the Panchavati area of Nashik city in Maharashtra, India. It is probably the most important Hindu shrine in the city. The temple derives its name from a black statue of Lord Rama. The literal translation of kalaram is "black Rama". The sanctum sanctorum also houses the statues of the goddess Sita and the god Lakshmana. Thousands of devotees visit it every day.
